Chrysanthus and Daria - True Victory

Here's a cover I did for my thesis about two martyrs of Early Christianity, Chrysanthus and Daria. They were two Roman aristocrats who were martyred at the end of the third century. Most of our sources about them come from their legend, but recent scientific analysis of their relics revealed this legend had serious historical grounds. My thesis analyzes those, among other things. 
The main concern of this drawing is the harmonious transition from the classical pagan culture to the christian one. The Victory statue is subverted and given a new meaning, but nothing is destroyed. Chrysanthus and Daria were eventually killed, thus receiving a spiritual crown, not a military one.

The Victory is a reference to Victory of Samothrace. I was kind of hesitating between a Byzantine style, an Art nouveau one but in the end the result is pretty classic, except maybe the upper half which is rather baroque inspired. Made with a pencil on regular drawing paper.
